Types of DNS records and their functionality

When you purchase a product with ClickPanda, you may need to add or change your domain's DNS settings. Here are the basics and how you can use them with ClickPanda:

DNS: This stands for “Domain Name System”. The system was created in order to translate IP addresses in a way that is easier to understand. For example, this system translates clickpanda.com into the IP address: “212.227.159.94”, which is the address of the computer that hosts the ClickPanda Internet page.

When you use ClickPanda's hosting services, you must change your domain's DNS records so that it points to ClickPanda's servers, where your page will be located.

Then review how to change your domain registrations by clicking here.

  • MX Record: “Mail Exchange” and allows the sending of emails from a domain to the servers that host the email accounts of a domain.
  • TXT Record: "Textual Information", allows you to offer information to external sources of your domain for different purposes.
  • CNAME record: It refers to “Canonical Name” (canonical name), its purpose is to link an alias of a domain with a real (canonical) domain name. For example mail.yourdomainname.com.co CNAME www.yourdomainname.com.co
  • Record A: A record of type A links a domain name with an IP address of a server, where the services of a domain are hosted. For example: yourdomainname.com.co points to the IP xx.xxx.xxxx through a type A record.
  • NS record: "Name Server", these records determine the servers that will communicate the DNS information of a domain.

TTL: “Time to leave”, it is a DNS registry value that determines the time that must elapse before the changes made in the DNS zone are applied and, by default, it is suggested never to change it to the default value that you find in the Clickpanda servers or any other provider.
