Header messages contain tracking information for an individual email, detailing the path that took the message as cross-mail servers. Select your mail provider or Webmail or mail client below to see instructions on how to find these headers.
Gmail
- Sign in to Gmail.
- Open the message from which you want to extract the header message.
- Click the down arrow next to Reply, in the message pane at the top.
- Click Show Original.
- A summary of the headers will appear in a new tab. To obtain them completely click on Download Original.
Note: If you use Gmail with a work or school account and you have S / MIME enabled, you can click on Download S / MIME Original or Download Decrypted.
Hotmail
- Sign in to your Hotmail account.
- Select Inbox from the menu on the left.
- Right click on the message of which you want to extract the headers and select View Message Source.
These headers will appear in a new window.
Outlook
- Open Outlook.
- Open the message by double-clicking it
- Click on the File tab.
- Click Properties.
- In the Properties dialog box, the headers will appear in the Internet Headers box.
For earlier versions of Outlook:
- Open Outlook.
- Open the message from which you want to extract the headers
- Click on the View menu, and select Options ...
