Side bars on themes.

Some topics offer one or more search bars. A sidebar is a secondary area containing your theme. This allows you to add widgets to your site. For example, if you want to add a list of categories https://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/categories-widget/, social networking icons https: //en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/social-media -icons-widget / or contact info https: //en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/contact-info/ you can add widgets to your sidebar.

You can also find some themes with default sidebar elements. For example Twenty Ten theme provides a search bar and a default file list in the sidebar elements. You will notice that when you go to My Sites → Customize → Widgets these items will not appear within your current Widgets.

To remove the items from the sidebar, go to My Sites → Customize → Widgets and add one or more widgets to the widgets area. This will replace all the elements of the sidebar with the widget of your choice. If you want to completely hide the sidebar in those themes by adding a widget with an empty text to the sidebar.
